Things I learned from the Flat Classroom Project

During the Flat Classroom Project, it was truly amazing to see how big the world really is and how easy it can be to collaborate and talk to someone oceans away without having to leave school.

But collaborating with someone right next to you is hard enough, I found there were pros and cons to working with people I had never met, seen, or heard of before on a project for a class.

There were some miss communications and problems keeping my trust in my teammates I'd never met to be liable for their part of the work or even just being able to talk during the week about the project. But overall we worked through the difficulties and, despite my initial doubts, we were able to work together and finish the project in such a way I never would have been able to do on my own. If I could do something differently I probably would have checked the page more often to increase communication.

I learned a lot about the technology age I was fortunate enough to be born into. My flatener was Wireless Connectivity and I learned  about how people have all of these games, work apps and programs, and search engines at their fingertips. It really made me appreciate how far technology has come.

For example, I got to learn how to use note taking apps and programs such as Evernote, and make videos on Movie Maker or create Prezi's I can present to my class. There are so many forms of presentations and communication out there and it was really cool being able to get even a preview  of some of the things today's technology is capable of.

Keynote Answer Essay

I use technology every day for fun and for school. Some technology that could overlap those categories are my cell phone, computer, and tablet device and such because they all deal with communication which is important especially if your doing school work and need to ask your teacher or your peers for help on understanding or doing projects or assignments. I use email, texts, social networking sites, and many other things to talk to my friends already, why not be able to talk to my teachers as well.

In the flat classroom project, we are using the 21st century skills that promote responsibility for you and your group to be timely and responsible. More than one person is depending on you and encouraging you to do your duty and do quality work so the group can get a good grade. It also promotes creativity because you and your group need to work together to solve problems that come up and write and essay together. You have to overcome any obstacles that stand in your way, together.

The best part about all of this communication and collaboration is that the experience is preparing me for my future because no matter what job field I go into I will most definitely need to communicate with my colleges and use technology to do so. It will be helpful having the experience of learning new technology so I will be better able to do so in the future. Learning to communicate with new technology is a life long skill that I will use as an adult and for the rest of my life.

Another thing that will help me in the future is that fact that I, and others in my generation, expect fast response times and in turn, give fast responses. This most definitively speeds communication and allows for more work to be done faster as if everyone was in the same room. If i take that into consideration when I post things or add to something and check the cite or place I posted it more often to see if someone replied, we can get more done and have a better overall project.

Digital Communication

Hey! My name is Skylar and this particular blog is for a class I’m taking called “Digital Communication Tools”.  I will be using this blog for posting things for this class for the rest of the semester. Our semester began with a unit on Digital Citizenship, learning about what it is to be responsible and respectful online, how we can control our digital footprint, and whether or not that becomes helpful or hurtful for future opportunities. Digital Citizenship is knowing how big a role media plays in your life and being able to responsibly put your image online. You must be respectful, responsible, and ethical to be able to present yourself well and use the web in a safe way.

After going in depth on this topic in class, I have changed my ways online. My online footprint wasn’t bad before, it just needed improving.  I post fewer things that could be harmful to myself or others down the road, but unfortunately some of my friends aren’t on the same boat. They post and say things online that I know will cost them some opportunities in the future. Things you post online will be there forever, even if you delete them. Be careful about what you put out there.

What you see attached to this is an info-graphic which is just a fun poster full of information. Ours is suppose to be about some element of Digital Citizenship, so I created mine about the role media plays in the lives of people around the world.  I hope you enjoy!
